Mid-Continent Awarded College of the Month
A little place just north of Mayfield lays the little campus of Mid-Continent College. The campus of Mid-Continent is located in the beautiful Four Rivers region of far western Kentucky. Mid-Continent is an appropriate name, since the college is located in the area that is the center point of the U.S. population and of the North American continent.

Mid-Continent was founded in 1949 in Clinton, KY. It has prepared a large number of students for the Christian ministry for more than half a century. As many as 70 percent of Baptist ministers in western Kentucky have completed course work at the college. In 1957, the college campus was relocated to Mayfield. William Earl Harris donated more than 100 acres of land for a new campus. Then in 1977 Mid-continent was moved to its current location.

In 1999, Mid-Continent adopted athletics. The sports they offer are, softball, baseball, men's soccer, and women's cross-country. The softball team was very successful this year winning the 2002 Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season title and finished as runners-up in the KIAC tournament. The men's soccer finished runners-up in the 2001 NCCAA nationals. The Cougars teams are made of a mixture of standouts that have graduated from high schools throughout the region and those who have come to play from other states and countries. Both scholarship and walk-on opportunities are available for participation in Mid-Continent athletics.

At Mid-Continent College, the Christian worldview is integrated into every course because they stress that all truth comes from the truth of God. The professors "go the extra mile" to assist students with practical advising and mentoring. Sixty percent of the faculty members hold degrees and 90 percent of full-time professors hold doctorates. With a small staff, students receive the personal attention that every college student needs.

Mid-Continent's students pursue a variety of majors and minors, ranging from preparing for the Christian ministry to psychology and counseling, elementary education, organizational leadership, and others. Many students are taking Advantage, an accelerated degree completion program designed to meet their needs.

Mid-Continent College is a Baptist, 4-year, teaching institution. Their main purpose is to provide Christ-centered quality higher education.

Mid-Continent seeks to:
·Train students to carry out the Great Commission of the Lord.
·Provide students with the knowledge and understanding of other cultures and international events.

Mid-Continent is the only college in America where every traditional full-time student can participate in travel study every year. Travel study helps students with their self-confidence and gives students opportunities to interact with other cultures. Most colleges and universities ask for additional money to be a part of travel study, but at Mid-Continent, the cost is covered by the regular tuition. Their regular tuition is low in cost, and is affordable with loans for all students of all income levels. Their regular tuition is 18 thousand dollars.
